[Português] Maceo Parker é saxofonista, flautista, pianista e cantor. Hoje com 71 anos, esta em atividade desde 1962, quando iniciou na banda de James Brown e posteriormente de diversos outros importantes artistas do soul-funk como Parliament, Fred Weslay, George Clinton, Prince, entre outros. A sua carreira solo vem sendo trabalhada desde os anos 70, sempre mesclando aos elementos soul-funk-jazz. Recentemente uma experiência muito bem sucedida, tanto para o artista quanto para a orquestra que o acompanhou, ficou registrada no disco duplo de 2007 chamado "Roots & Grooves".Neste disco, a frente da WDR Big Band de Colonia, uma das mais importantes orquestras de jazz européias da atualidade, foi produzido um trabalho dinâmico, colorido, com muito swing, soul e jazz, em que Maceo canta, toca sax e piano apoiado por uma orquestra de forte pegada musical. Este encontro fez uma homenagem a Ray Charles em 14 músicas sob os arranjos de Michael Abene. Para fortalecer a linha de base da orquestra, as gravações contaram também com Rodney Curtis no baixo e Denis Chambers na bateria. Destaque na orquestra é sem dúvida a vitalidade de Frank Chastenier no órgão Hammond (escutar o sample Hallelujah I Love Her So ou ir no link do Youtube aqui).
[English] Maceo Parker is saxophonist , flutist , pianist and singer. Today, with 71 years old, and in the musical business since 1962, when he started with the James Brown's band and subsequently several other important artists of soul-funk like Parliament, Fred Weslay, George Clinton, Prince, among others. His solo career has been worked since the 70s, always merging the soul-funk-jazz elements. Recently a very successful experience for both the artist and the orchestra that accompanied it, was recorded in the 2007 double CD call "Roots & Grooves". On this record, on front of the WDR Big Band of Cologne, one of the most important European jazz orchestras today, was produced a dynamic, colorful, with much swing, soul and jazz, where Maceo sings, plays sax and piano supported by an orchestra of strong musical feeling. The meeting paid tribute to Ray Charles in 14 songs with arrangements by Michael Abene. To strengthen line based orchestra, the recordings relied also with Rodney Curtis on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums.
